Almost tossed a $300 lamp until I saw it from a different angle

Had this ugly floor lamp my aunt gave me sitting in the corner for 6 months, then I moved it next to a window at sunset and the shade cast this perfect triangle of light on the wall. Anyone else have something hideous suddenly look like a sculpture just because of where the light hits?

Oh man, the "different angle" thing is real. I had this beat up old brass lamp from a garage sale that I kept in the basement because it looked like something from a cheap motel. Then one night I put it on a side table near a dark corner and the shade caught the light just right. The brass turned this warm gold color and the pattern in the shade made these little star shapes on the ceiling. I left it right where it was and now it's my favorite thing in the room. Makes me wonder how much junk I've thrown out that could have been saved by moving it three feet.

That's such a good point. It's crazy how much a few feet can change everything about a piece. I've done the same thing with an old chair I was going to donate, just moved it to a different spot and suddenly it worked. Really makes you wonder what else is hiding in plain sight in our own houses.
