Just realized my neighbor's rusted lawn chair was a random sculpture

Last Tuesday I was taking out trash at 7am and stopped to look at this old lawn chair leaning against her fence in Portland. The rust had eaten through the back in this weird spiral pattern, and a spider web connected the armrest to the fence post. It looked like something from a modern art museum, not a backyard. She came out and said "been meaning to toss that for 3 summers now," but I told her to keep it, it's free decor. Have you ever caught a broken thing looking better than when it was new?

There's actually a name for this, it's called wabi-sabi studio. I remember driving through Detroit a few years back and seeing all these abandoned houses with collapsed porches, and the ivy growing through the broken railings looked way more interesting than the new builds going up next to them. The problem is once you notice it, you start seeing it everywhere, and then you can't unsee the fact that every parking lot curb has a little crack that looks like a river delta after a storm. My neighbor's chair finally collapsed last winter under the snow, and honestly? The pile of rusted metal in the grass looked better than the chair did.
