Rant: my windshield frosted into a perfect fern pattern overnight and now I can't scrape it
So I parked my truck facing the field behind my place in Boise on Tuesday night, and Wednesday morning the whole windshield was covered in this frost that looked exactly like fern leaves. Not random ice. Actual fern shapes, curving stems and little leaves branching off, spreading from the bottom corner of the glass all the way up to the mirror. I sat there with my scraper in my hand for a solid minute because it felt wrong to wreck it. My neighbor Dale came out with his coffee and said it happens because the glass loses heat fast and the water in the air freezes onto tiny scratches or dust first, then the ice grows from those spots. It took about four hours overnight to build the whole thing, going by when I checked the truck before bed versus when I saw it in the morning. Best part is the shadow of that pattern stayed on the glass in a faint outline for a day after it melted. Has anyone else gotten frost patterns that looked too good to scrape, or am I the only one out here having feelings about ice on a Chevy?
