The coffee stain on my countertop looked just like a nebula this morning

I was over at my sister's place in Austin last Saturday, just making some morning coffee, and I set the mug down on this old butcher block counter. When I picked it up later, the ring it left behind had all these swirls and lighter spots around the edges... it seriously looked like one of those deep space photos from the Hubble telescope. The way the coffee dried kind of uneven, with darker patches in the center and those feathery little tendrils spreading out, I couldn't stop staring at it. I grabbed my phone and took like 10 pictures trying to capture the lighting right because it kept changing as the sun moved. My sister walked in and asked why I was hunched over the counter like that, and I showed her, and she goes "oh that's just a circle" but I swear it was something more. Has anyone else had a random stain or spill turn into something that looked like actual space art?

You have TEN pictures of a coffee stain? That's some serious dedication right there. I guess I've never really taken that close of a look at my stains to see if they look like space or anything else. But now I'm kind of curious what I might be missing in the bottom of my morning mug. Did you ever end up posting any of those photos somewhere or are they just living on your phone forever?

That's kind of funny you mention the coffee stain thing, @eric540. I actually did something similar once with a cracked windshield. I took about a dozen photos because the pattern looked like a mountain range at sunset, and I wanted to capture it from every angle. I never posted them either, they just sit in my camera roll next to random shots of my odometer. But I get it, sometimes you see something in those everyday marks and it just sticks with you. I guess the phone is as good a place as any for them.
