Heard a guy at work say air fryers are just mini convection ovens

My coworker Dave said that while we were waiting for coffee last Tuesday, and it kinda bugged me all day. I mean, sure, the heat circulation is similar, but my air fryer crisps up chicken thighs in 18 minutes where my big oven takes 40 and dries them out. I told him about the texture difference with frozen spring rolls too, but he just shrugged. Has anyone else had to defend their air fryer against the convection oven crowd?
