Hot take: Preheating the air fryer is actually a waste of time for most things
I got into it with my buddy Dave last Tuesday while making wings. He swears you gotta preheat for 5 minutes every single time or the food comes out soggy. But I've been testing this for about 2 months now with chicken thighs, fries, and even frozen egg rolls. I put a thermometer in there to check and after 3 tries the temp difference was only like 15 degrees after a minute of cooking. So that preheat time just adds 5 extra minutes for no real payoff in my kitchen. Dave said I was being lazy but I think he's just stuck in his old oven habits. Anyone else skip the preheat or am I the weird one here?

Honestly I'm with you on this one, I stopped preheating my air fryer after the first week and nothing turned out soggy. You're right about that temp difference being barely anything, my fries come out just as crispy whether I wait or not. Dave is probably just used to how ovens work, but air fryers heat up so fast that extra 5 minutes is pointless.
