My air fryer smoked out the kitchen at 2 AM, here's what went down
Last Tuesday I tossed in a bag of frozen taquitos without checking the basket was clean from earlier. Oil drips from a salmon cook turned to smoke clouds within 4 minutes. I live in a tiny 1 bedroom in Austin, so the alarm went off immediately. I unplugged it, opened the sliding door, and let it run empty for 10 minutes outside on the balcony. The taquitos were a write-off. Now I wipe the basket bone dry before every use, even if I think it looks fine. Anyone else had a smoke-out from leftover grease sneak attacks?

Took the basket outside and hit it with hot soapy water right after I smoked out my own kitchen with leftover bacon grease. The real fix was keeping a dedicated paper towel near the air fryer so I wipe it down the second I’m done eating instead of trusting my memory. Now I do a quick empty run at 400 degrees for 3 minutes before tossing in anything new, and it’s saved me twice already.
