My air fryer was covered in old grease for months and I didn't even notice
Last Tuesday I was cooking chicken thighs in my air fryer at my apartment in Austin and smelled something weird. I pulled out the basket and realized there was a thick layer of built up grease on the heating coil from probably 40+ meals. I gave it a deep clean with baking soda and vinegar for the first time ever. Now my fries actually come out crispy instead of soggy. Has anyone else had a moment where cleaning it totally changed how your food turns out?

That "soggy fries" part hit home. I had the same problem with my air fryer after about three months of heavy use. The grease buildup on the heating element was so bad it was basically steaming my food instead of crisping it. I found that using a soft toothbrush to scrub the coil with the baking soda paste works way better than a sponge. Also, don't forget to wipe down the fan blades inside the top, mine were caked too and once I cleaned those the air actually started moving right again.
