Rant: I tried frozen fries in the air fryer vs homemade and homemade wins every time

I know everyone raves about tossing Ore-Ida frozen fries in the air fryer for 12 minutes. But I spent a Sunday peeling and cutting my own potatoes into thin sticks. After 5 batches, the homemade ones came out way crispier and didn't get soggy after 3 minutes. The frozen ones always taste like oil and cardboard to me. Am I the only one who thinks fresh is worth the extra 15 minutes of prep? What's your go-to potato type for homemade fries?

Frozen fries actually do better if you soak them in cold water for 30 minutes first and dry them really well before the air fryer. That gets rid of some of the extra starch and oil coating they put on them. But I still agree homemade is better most of the time. Yukon Gold potatoes are my favorite because they get that perfect fluffy inside and crispy outside without being too waxy. For frozen brands, I actually like the crinkle cut ones better than the straight cut because they hold up longer without getting soggy.
