Vent: I ruined a batch of brussels sprouts by preheating the air fryer wrong for 20 minutes
I set the temperature to 400 but left it empty way too long because I was chopping onions, then dumped the sprouts in and they came out black on the outside and raw in the middle, has anyone else had this happen when you forget to time the preheat?

Yeah preheating an empty air fryer too long is basically just turning it into a little oven of doom. I've done the same thing with a toaster oven before, left it cranking while I prepped stuff and everything came out torched. The outside burns way faster since there's no moisture in there to buffer the heat. Next time just toss the sprouts in cold, the extra minute of cook time is way better than charcoal.

I ruined a batch of chicken wings that way last month. Put them in the air fryer after a long preheat and the skin was black in five minutes while the inside was still raw. Now I just put everything in while the basket is cold and add two minutes to the timer. Way less stress and the food actually comes out even.
