Vent: I saw a cooking demo at the county fair that made me rethink frozen fries

They were doing air fryer demos at the fairgrounds last weekend, and the person kept pushing these fancy frozen fries that cost $8 a bag. They said you had to use those for the best results. But I've been making my own from scratch for over a year now, and it's way cheaper and tastes better. I can get a 5 pound bag of russet potatoes for $4 and make enough fries for my family twice. The texture is just as good if you soak them and dry them right. Why do people act like the store bought stuff is the only way to go? Has anyone else had good luck with homemade fries in their air fryer?

Is it just me or is there a weird push to make everything a special purchase now? Like you need the exact right brand of frozen fries to make your machine work. It feels like they're trying to sell convenience as a skill you can't do yourself.

Look at it as a way to lock you into their whole system. The fries are just the start. Once you own the machine, you're stuck buying their overpriced bags forever. It's not about convenience, it's about making a one time buy into a monthly bill. They design the product to fail with anything else, so your choice gets taken away after the first purchase.
