Found a payphone still working in Missoula, made me rethink my whole no-phone setup
I was in Missoula last week for a job and spotted a payphone next to the old train depot. It actually had a dial tone, so I called my mom just to see if it would connect. She picked up and we talked for five minutes, no dropped call, no battery anxiety. It got me thinking about how we treat a simple wire line as obsolete, but honestly it worked FINE for everything I needed. On one hand, I love my landline at home for the sound quality and zero distractions. On the other hand, carrying a pocket full of quarters feels crazy in 2024, and what if I got a flat tire at night? Has anyone else tried going full retro with payphones or are we just romanticizing something that's truly dead now?
