I switched from a calculator app to a paper ledger for my bills after one blackout

I've always been the type to pay everything on my phone. Then we lost power for 4 days near Columbus after that storm in March. My phone died by day two and I had no clue what was due on the 15th. It hit me that I was one dead battery away from a late fee. So I bought a simple columnar pad for 3 bucks and wrote out every bill with due dates and amounts. Took maybe 20 minutes. Now I check it every Sunday morning with a pen, not a screen. It's weird how crossing something out feels more real than tapping a button. Has anyone else found that having a paper copy of their finances keeps them more honest with spending?
