Library card catalog drawers beat my phone for finding old maps

Last month I needed a 1987 flood map of our county for a property question. I spent 20 minutes on my phone getting nowhere useful. Then I walked to the main library downtown and asked if they kept paper maps. The clerk pointed me to a card catalog drawer labeled 'Geology, 1950-1990'. It took me 3 minutes to find the exact map index, and the map itself was in a flat file behind circulation. I never knew libraries still had those drawers in working order. Has anyone else ditched a search engine for a physical index and found better results?
