My grandma's recipe box beat every app I ever tried
I used to keep all my recipes in a notes app on my phone, but scrolling past coupons and texts to find my chili recipe got old fast. Two winters ago I moved everything into a wood box my grandma kept on her counter in Omaha, just index cards in her handwriting. Now I cook from the card, spill on it, and cross out stuff that didn't work, and dinner gets on the table in 40 minutes instead of an hour. Does anyone else keep a paper recipe box, and how do you sort yours?
Went through the same thing when my mom passed and I found her little tin box of cards. What helped me was sorting by type first, so all the sweets in one section, mains in another, and then loosely by how often I make them. The stained ones with notes in the margins are the ones I reach for most anyway. Splitting it into just a few piles like that kept it from turning into a whole project.
