My grandma's wind up alarm clock replaced my phone alarm 2 months ago and I wake up before it now
My grandma gave me her old wind up alarm clock from the 60s after I complained about my phone dying overnight and making me late for my mail route in Boise. I started setting it for 5:15am every morning and winding it before bed, and for the first 2 weeks I hated not having snooze. But after about 3 weeks my body just started waking up at 5:10 on its own, before the bell even rings. Now the phone sits in the kitchen overnight and I get to bed earlier since I can't scroll in the dark. Has anyone else switched back to a wind up and noticed their sleep get better, or is it just me?
Noticed the same thing happens with a lot of old tech people write off as worse. My buddy switched to a paper map for his delivery job and now he actually knows his city instead of just following the blue dot. My wife started writing checks again for bills and she stopped forgetting payments because she had to sit down and think about each one. There is something about a thing that only does one job that makes your brain treat it with more respect. Your clock only tells time, so your body has nothing else to do but listen to it. I bet half the stuff we call progress just added noise we did not need.
