My grandmother's old bread recipe survived a power outage last Tuesday

The power went out here in Portland for about 6 hours last Tuesday, and my phone died after 2 hours of scrolling. I was bored out of my mind, so I pulled out my grandma's handwritten bread recipe card from 1984. The oven is gas so it still worked, and I just used a kitchen timer instead of my phone. The loaves came out better than when I use the fancy digital scale, honestly. Anyone else find that cooking without gadgets just works better sometimes?

Keep the timer method for sure, it forces you to actually peek at the dough instead of trusting a beep. I started doing the same after my scale battery died mid-knead and now I just eyeball the flour and water. That handwritten card probably has the exact feel written down too, like the dough should feel like a baby's bottom or something, and that's the real secret.
