My grandpa told me to stop using detergent on my cast iron and just scrub with salt and oil, took me 6 months to try it but now I never go back.
He said the modern stuff strips the seasoning and I thought he was just old school stubborn, but after burning through a third layer of seasoning I gave his way a shot. Anyone else get family advice that went against everything you read online?

Your grandpa was spot on about the salt and oil thing. I stripped my pan twice using soap before my uncle told me the same thing. Now I just scrub with coarse salt and a paper towel and it works perfect.
