Man, that is EXACTLY what happened to my buddy Jim last summer! He was so proud of his fancy phone map and then the trail just... stopped existing on the screen. He spent two hours bushwhacking through thorns and poison ivy before giving up and calling his wife to come get him at a random gravel road. I swear, those old paper maps know the land way better than any app ever will. He ended up buying a vintage one of our whole region after that and says he'll never go back to digital for real hiking.

Totally get this! I tried using my phone's GPS last month and ended up walking in a circle for an hour. @tessa_lewis is right, those old trails vanish from apps. My vintage map has these little hand-drawn paths that cut right through the new housing areas. Felt like a real explorer instead of a lost idiot.
