Turns out the little latch on the camera door had popped open halfway through the day and I never noticed. That was the day I learned to always give the camera body a gentle squeeze after loading film, just to double check. Anyone else had a similar gut punch from a simple mechanical fail?

I was at Hudson Camera in Portland last month dropping off a roll for developing when a older gent pointed at a print I had in my bag and said it was a waste of film. Spent 3 hours trying to fix a light leak on my Canon AE-1

Last week I picked up a beat-to-hell Pentax K1000 from a Salvation Army in Portland for $15. Took it out to shoot around Laurelhurst Park and every single frame came back totally fogged on the edges. Almost chucked the camera before I remembered reading about light seals degrading after 20+ years. Grabbed a $8 light seal kit off eBay, spent maybe 45 minutes scraping out the old crumbling foam and sticking new strips in the back door and mirror box. Just developed my second roll from that camera yesterday and the images are crystal clear with zero light leaks. Anyone else ever almost trash a perfectly good camera just because of some old foam?

Picked up a Canon AE-1 at a garage sale last month for 20 bucks, and there was a half-finished roll of Fuji Superia inside. I took a chance and sent it to the lab, expecting nothing but fogged garbage. Instead, it came back with photos of someone's backyard barbecue from June 2009 - you could see the date stamp. The strangest part was a shot of a kid blowing out candles on a cake, and they looked like they were about 12, so that person is probably in their late 20s now. Has anyone else had luck with mystery rolls from old cameras?

I finally found a roll of film from 2017 that looked totally different after getting it developed now vs back then

So I had this roll of Portra 400 sitting in my fridge since 2017, never got it developed cause I just kinda forgot about it. Finally sent it off to The Darkroom last month and when I got the scans back, the colors were way more muted and the shadows had this weird greenish tint compared to the fresh rolls I shot last week. I think the cold storage actually slowed down the chemical degradation over 7 years, giving it a completely different look. Has anyone else noticed big changes in old film they sat on for years?

I shot the same 36 exposures on a beat up Nikon FM from 1982 and then a newer F100 last month. The FM shots had this weird glow to them, must be the old lens coatings or maybe light leaks from the worn foam. The F100 frames were sharp and clean but kind of boring, almost too perfect. It took me comparing a photo of my dog at the park from each camera to really see it. The older camera gave the shot a softness that made the grass and shadows look like a painting from the 70s. Has anyone else noticed a huge difference between old and newer bodies with the same film stock?

I was shooting at my cousin's outdoor wedding near Forest Park. The shutter on my old Pentax K1000 just locked up solid after maybe 15 frames. He told me modern slide film handles highlights way better and to just meter normally or even overexpose a tiny bit. Tried it on a roll of Ektachrome at a fall foliage hike near Lake George. Night and day difference. Now I've got a folder of underexposed mountains I'm bummed about. Anyone else get passed down advice that was outdated?

I was shooting a sunrise at Horseshoe Bend in Arizona a few years back. This guy with a beat up Pentax walks up and says just meter for the highlights and forget bracketing, film is too expensive. Back in 2019, an old photographer at my local shop told me to avoid any SLR with a plastic lens mount because it would develop play over time. I thought he was just being snobby about cheap gear, so I bought a Canon EOS 300v anyway because it was $40. Two years and maybe 30 rolls later, the mount wobbled so bad every shot at f/2.8 came out soft on the left side.
