A roll of film from a very quiet morning at the old city docks

I got up before sunrise one Tuesday in April and walked down to the Portland waterfront with my Pentax K1000. The light was just starting to hit the pilings, and the only sound was the water. I shot the whole roll of Tri-X 400 there, just me and the gulls. I didn't see another person for over two hours. When I got the prints back, they had this calm, empty feeling the digital shots from my phone that same week just didn't. Do you have any photos from a time you had a place all to yourself?

My old K1000 always captured that quiet feeling.

That quiet feeling is all about the shutter sound.

And that shutter sound is half the experience, honestly. With my K1000, I swear the click echoes different depending on the light and the quiet around me. On that dock, each click felt heavy, like it was pressing the stillness into the film. My digital camera just makes a polite little noise that doesn't match the moment at all.
