Debate: Should you tell the subject you're shooting film or just shoot?
Ran into this older guy at a flea market in Austin last month. I was shooting my Pentax K1000 and he comes up asking what I'm doing. I told him I was just grabbing some shots of old signs. He said "you know, every time you tell someone you're shooting film they get all stiff and fake. Just don't say anything." But I've had people smile more natural when they know it's film. What do you think? Does knowing change how they act?

Old guy's totally right, people get weird once they know.

Used to be on team "tell everyone" until last month shooting a buddy's band. They mugged for the camera like idiots the first few shots, then I pocketed the Nikon and pulled out my phone pretending to text. Grabbed way better candids when they thought I wasn't shooting. Old guy's got a point.
