Finally got a decent shot of my dog indoors with a 400 ISO film after three rolls of blurry mess.
I was about to give up on indoor pet photos, but pushing the Tri-X to 800 and using a 50mm f/1.8 lens in my dim kitchen last Tuesday actually froze her mid-yawn perfectly.

My buddy's cat photo turned out sharp after he finally tried a faster lens indoors.

So what was he using before, a kit lens? I've seen so many people fight with a slow f/5.6 zoom in a dark living room and wonder why every shot is blurry. Switching to even a basic f/1.8 prime makes a crazy difference, letting in way more light. Did he say if the cat was actually sitting still for once, or was the faster shutter speed finally freezing the movement?
