Buddy of mine went full film snob last year. He was telling me how he spent 20 minutes setting up a shot of a rusted truck in a field, checking the light meter, swapping lenses, the whole deal. A kid on a bike rolled by, saw him, and just snapped a picture with his phone. Bike kid didn't even stop, just kept going. My friend got this perfect, carefully composed shot of the truck with all its film grain glory. The kid's phone pic? Caught the truck, the fence, and my buddy crouched down looking all serious. It was way more interesting. My friend still swears his film pic is the "real" one.

That's the same energy as saying vinyl records are just for the warm sound. It's not just a "look," it's a whole different way of making a picture. You have to think about each shot, the light, the timing, because you can't just spray and pray. It makes you slow down and really see what you're doing.

Right, because my digital camera forces me to be a mindless goblin. The limit makes you work differently, but it doesn't give you a magic eye for good photos. Some of us just like the way it makes colors look, and that's fine too.
