PSA: Dropped my camera bag into a creek at Letchworth State Park, thought I lost a whole trip's worth of shots.

It's funny how many of our close calls with gear happen in beautiful places. We put so much trust in our stuff to capture a moment, and then nature reminds us it's all just plastic and glass. These stories make me wonder if the near-loss is part of the memory itself now. You'll probably remember that creek and the panic more than some of the photos you took. The gear that survives its own little disaster often becomes the most trusted piece you own.

My buddy did that with his phone in a river last fall. It was in a waterproof case but still, we thought it was gone. Found it wedged under a rock after twenty minutes of feeling around in freezing water. The case saved it, but the screen was full of creek water for weeks. He still uses that phone, actually.
