Rant: My niece called my film camera a 'hipster calculator'

She's 14 and said she only sees 'old stuff' like that in movies, which made me realize I never explain why I shoot film to people outside the hobby. I told her it's about the waiting and the single chance, not just the look, and she actually got quiet for a second. Do you guys have a simple way you describe the point of analog to someone who's never held a roll?

ugh that's so real. i never know how to explain it either without sounding like a weirdo. the waiting part is the whole thing for me too.

oh man, I read this thing somewhere that said the waiting is actually the main event for your brain. like your brain treats the anticipation as its own separate reward track. so the whole build up, the planning, the daydreaming about it - that's not just filler, that's your brain already getting its payoff. kinda makes sense why the actual thing can feel like a letdown sometimes. your brain's been having a party for weeks before you even do anything. it's not weird at all, it's just how our brains are wired to work.

My friend told his kid it's like a slow game, and @lily574 gets that waiting feeling too lol.
