Stood in a camera shop for 20 minutes arguing with a guy about why my blurry photo was art
I was at Hudson Camera in Portland last month dropping off a roll for developing when a older gent pointed at a print I had in my bag and said it was a waste of film. He wouldn't let it go, kept saying proper exposure and focus are the only rules that matter in photography. Anyone else run into a film purist who treats rules like they're carved in stone?

Did you ever think you'd be the one defending the rules after a conversation like that? I used to be all about breaking every photography rule I could find until I ruined a whole roll of film by purposely shooting into the sun without a lens hood. It made me realize there's a big difference between knowing the rules and being creative with them.

Third roll of film I ever shot had half the frames blown out because I wanted to see what happened without a filter. Now I tell people to learn the exposure triangle cold before they start breaking stuff on purpose.
