A buddy told me my subbed vs dubbed take was total garbage
A guy at my local con panel last summer said my opinion on dubs was lazy. I always thought subs were the only real way to watch anime. But he pointed out I was missing how good modern voice acting got. He said stuff like Cowboy Bebop or FMAB had casts that added their own depth. I got defensive at first but decided to give some dubs another shot. Watched Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 dubbed and it actually hit different. The pacing and emotion landed way better than I expected. Now I switch between sub and dub based on the show's vibe. Anyone else have a fan change your mind on something simple like this?

Yeah I gotta push back a little on the Cowboy Bebop thing. The dub for that show is legendary sure, but the Japanese cast is just as good, if not better for some of the nuanced moments. Koichi Yamadera as Spike is a whole different level of cool. The idea that the dub added depth that wasn't there originally feels like you're selling the original talent short. Both versions are great, they just hit different notes.

I saw a video essay once that broke down how different the Japanese voice direction was for Bebop. It's wild how much the tone shifts between the two casts. Both are amazing but totally different vibes lol.
