Binged a 2000s mecha anime and my laptop fan sounded like a jet engine

I decided to watch Gundam Seed in 480p on a crt filter last night and my old laptop started screaming like it was about to take off. Turns out the fan was clogged with dust from months of ignoring it and the whole thing nearly overheated. Anyone else have their tech freak out during a niche anime marathon?

You are right about those CRT shaders being a real test for old hardware. I ran into the same issue watching Macross Plus last week. My desktop has a GPU from 2018 and even it started chugging along with the fan noise. It got me thinking that all these sophisticated filters are really just asking a modern computer to emulate a specific kind of analog heat and distortion, which takes more processing power than you would think.

Man that's rough. I totally get it though, old hardware and low res anime is a dangerous combo. I had a similar thing happen with my desktop watching Gunbuster in 240p through a weird filter, the whole case started vibrating like crazy. It's like the computer knows you're pushing its ancient GPU to do something it wasn't designed for and it just gives up. I've started keeping a can of compressed air next to my desk just for those nights when I decide to revisit something from the early 2000s. Makes me wonder how many laptops have been sacrificed to the gods of pixel art and CRT shaders over the years.
