Dub vs Sub debate got heated at my local anime meetup last night

So I was at the downtown comic shop in Portland on Wednesday and someone straight up said anyone who watches dub is not a real anime fan. Then this other guy argued that modern dubs are actually better now because of shows like Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm on the fence because I watch both depending on my mood. What do you all think, does the quality of the voice acting change which side you pick?

My buddy tried watching sub first and swapped to dub halfway through because he kept missing plot points trying to read.

Gotta say the dub side was right here, modern dubs hit different especially with the big budget shows. Sub purists are just gatekeeping at this point when the voice acting quality gap is basically gone.
