Finally watched the sub over the dub for a whole series and it clicked this time

I've always been a dub guy for years, tried a few times to watch subs but gave up after a few episodes. Last month I decided to stick with the sub for an entire 26 episode show and man, the emotions hit way harder. The voice acting just felt more real, especially in the quiet scenes. Has anyone else had that moment where sub suddenly just works for you?

Subs really let you hear the raw emotion in their voices without missing anything in the performance.

Oh man, @juliam40 you're totally right but I have to laugh because every time I try to focus on the emotion I end up just staring at the subtitles trying to figure out if I just read the translation right. Like, someone's singing their heart out about a breakup and I'm over here like "wait did that say 'your love was like a broken vending machine'?" Honestly though, it's way better than dubs where they replace the raw emotion with some bored voice actor reading off a script. At least with subs I can actually hear the real performance, even if my brain needs a second to catch up. Ngl, sometimes I miss big moments because I'm too busy reading, but I'd take that over missing the real voice every time.
