Hot take: That one comment about my pacing totally wrecked my approach

Some dude on a thread last week told me I was skipping all the slice-of-life episodes in favor of just plot arcs and that I was missing the point. He said "you're watching for the destination not the journey" and it honestly got me thinking. Has anyone else had a single piece of criticism completely flip how you watch a show?

Three episodes into The Wire season two someone on this forum told me I was watching it wrong because I kept checking my phone during the dock workers stuff. Took that to heart and rewatched the whole series with my full attention on every single scene. Now I tell people to treat slice-of-life episodes like the main course not a filler, because those quiet moments are usually where the characters actually change. Helped me realize most shows are better when you stop trying to speedrun the plot.

Huh, I actually kind of disagree. Some shows just have slow parts.
