My buddy convinced me I was wrong about dubs vs subs for 3 years straight

I was at a meetup last Tuesday talking to this guy named Marcus who goes hard for dubbed anime. He said he watches every new season with English audio and I laughed at him at first. Then he explained how modern dubs actually localize jokes better for Western audiences, not just translate words. He pointed out the Food Wars dub changes some puns to hit funnier with English speakers, and honestly I never thought about it that way. Has anyone else had a conversation that flipped your whole stance on something basic like this?

Oh man @lucas165 that pizza thing is exactly what I went through! My friend made me try Hawaiian pizza on a road trip when I was starving and suddenly all my years of hating it went out the window. Grilled pineapple is a total game changer, the canned stuff is way too mushy and sweet. It was the same with dubs for me, once I actually gave a good one a shot I realized I had been missing out.

Reminds me of when a buddy tried to convince me that pineapple on pizza was actually good if you used grilled pineapple, not the canned stuff. Took me two years to even try it, and now I order it half the time. Funny how one conversation can make you rethink something you were dead sure about for years.
