Rant: People keep calling 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' a mecha show and missing the whole point
I see it all the time in threads, folks treat it like it's just about giant robots fighting. It's really a character study about trauma and loneliness, which is why the last two episodes are just psychological breakdowns. Did anyone else have their view of it totally shift after a rewatch?

My first watch was all about the cool robot fights. Years later, I saw it again and the whole thing hit different. Shinji's fear and the crushing loneliness of the characters became the whole story for me. The robots almost felt like a side note.

Yeah, it's like the robots are just the setting, not the story. The real show is all the messed up people inside them trying to connect. The fights are the least interesting part.
