That one filler arc made me quit a series for 2 years

I was watching this shonen back in 2019, got to episode 148 of like 300, and the show just stopped moving. Every episode was a flashback inside a recap inside a training montage. I dropped it cold and only came back last month because a friend begged me to skip to episode 155, so I did. Has anyone else rage-quit a show over filler, then felt weird about going back? How do you decide when to power through or just skip ahead?
