The plot hole in Code Geass season 2 that bugged me for 3 years finally got explained

I was rewatching Code Geass last month with a friend who'd never seen it, and we got to that part in season 2 where Lelouch just randomly has access to Geass again after being captured by Charles. I always thought it was a lazy writing mistake. Turns out, there's a throwaway line in episode 15 where C.C. mentions the Geass reset after his memory wipe. My buddy caught it on his first watch and I felt so dumb for missing it all these years. Has anyone else found a tiny detail that fixed a whole show for them?

Honestly, yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing that makes you feel like an idiot for complaining. I had the same thing with a show where a character's unexplained power boost was actually explained in a background news report I totally skipped. It's wild how one tiny line can fix a whole season's worth of frustration.

And that "one tiny line can fix a whole season" thing is exactly why I hate when people defend bad writing by saying "just pay attention." Like no, I shouldn't have to pause the show and read a newspaper prop in the background to understand the main plot point. That's not clever storytelling, that's hiding the answer under the rug. A good show would make that explanation part of the actual dialogue or a scene you can't miss. If you're going to fix everything with one line, at least put it somewhere the audience can actually see it.
