Tried that old 'sub vs dub' debate on my local anime club's Facebook page
I posted a simple opinion that I prefer subtitles because I like hearing the original voice acting, and man, did that blow up. Within two hours there were 47 comments and people were getting into heated arguments about lip flaps and translation accuracy. I had no idea that just saying 'I watch subs' would get people calling me an elitist or saying I'm missing out on good performances. What really surprised me was how many people admitted they've never even tried the other option. One guy said he watched dubbed exclusively for 10 years and refused to watch a subtitled episode even to compare. I learned that this topic is way more personal than I thought. Has anyone else gotten dragged into a weirdly intense argument just for stating a preference?

Saw a video where a voice actor talked about how dubs actually have to change some lines to match mouth movements, which makes the translation different on purpose. Wild how people pick one side and treat it like a personal attack.

See it the other way. Sub titles keep the original meaning way more accurate.
