Warning: That anime convention panel changed how I watch subtitles now
I was at Anime Expo last year in the main hall listening to a translator talk about how much gets lost in direct translations. She gave 5 examples from popular shows where the sub and dub had completely different meanings. Has anyone else started noticing translation choices messing with a show's vibe?

Read that translators actually change meanings to fit mouth flaps in dubs.

Hmm, I actually disagree a bit - good translators will adjust the timing but keep the core meaning intact, its not like they just make stuff up to match the mouth movements. The changes are usually really small stuff that doesn't matter to the plot anyway (like matching a short word to a quick lip flap).
