Went to a con in Sacramento and nobody was talking about the actual anime
I hit up SacAnime last weekend and walked the whole floor for like 3 hours. I saw tons of people in cosplay, vendors selling prints and keychains, and big crowds around the main stage. But when I tried to chat with folks in line about what they were watching this season, most just shrugged or said they were mostly there for the artists and the vibes. I get that cons are bigger than just the shows now, but it felt weird that the actual anime conversations were almost nonexistent. There was one panel about old mecha shows that had maybe 12 people in it, while the karaoke room was packed wall to wall. Has anyone else noticed this shift at their local cons, or is it just the bigger ones that feel more like a pop culture mall than an anime meetup?
