Why does nobody mention how bad filler episodes were in 90s anime

I was rewatching the original Yu Yu Hakusho last month and it hit me like a brick... I spent years thinking Toguro was some unstoppable force because the anime stretched his arc with like 15 episodes of random ghost fights. Turns out I was just watching pure filler the whole time. The manga wraps things up way faster and makes way more sense. I remember sitting on my couch around episode 60 wondering why the Spirit Detective stuff felt so dragged out. Then I talked to a buddy who read the manga and he was like "you know half of that is made up, right?" Felt kind of dumb but also relieved. Has anyone else had a moment where you realized you sat through hours of filler that didn't matter?

Remember the Dark Tournament was actually canon though.

Gotta disagree with you there. The Dark Tournament was fun but I always saw it as filler material they stretched out for the anime.
