Just wasted $22 on a 'no-fail' cake decorating kit from a late-night infomercial
The 'magic' icing tips were just cheap plastic that broke instantly, and the instruction booklet was a single blurry photocopy. Has anyone found a decent starter set that won't fall apart?

That "blurry photocopy" instruction booklet sounds about right. I bought a similar kit years ago. What finally worked for me was just getting a basic metal tip set from the craft store, the kind they keep behind the counter. It was maybe twelve dollars for three tips, a coupler, and a bag. Learned more from five minutes on YouTube than any of those booklets.

Ever wonder if those bad booklets are on purpose? Like they make the starter kit frustrating so you give up and buy their fancy branded stuff later. I had a kit where the icing recipe was just wrong, way too runny. It felt like a trick to make you think you failed, not the kit.
