My grandma's pound cake recipe made me cry at 2am after she called me out

She told me I'd been overmixing the batter for 10 years because I was too scared to trust the lumps, and when I finally followed her exact instructions with cold butter at 11pm last Tuesday, the texture came out so right I had to sit on the kitchen floor and think about every failed birthday cake I'd ever brought to work, so has anyone else had a family member casually drop a fix that rewires your whole baking brain?

My sister once told me after 20 years that I was using the wrong kind of salt in her chili recipe, and I nearly threw the pot at her. The funny thing is, she was right, and now I can't even taste chili without wondering what other quiet corrections are lurking in my kitchen. Maybe we should all start filming our cooking so our relatives can critique us in real time.
