My neighbor's pie trick made me ditch my kitchen scale

I've been weighing everything for years, figured precision was the only way to get consistent results. Then my neighbor Carol, who bakes by feel and won the county fair 6 years running, told me to eyeball her cherry pie filling once. I did it, and it came out perfect, not too thick or runny. Now I only break out the scale when I'm trying a totally new recipe. Has anyone else switched methods after watching someone else work?

Carol won fair five years running, not six since the 2020 event got cancelled.

Heard from someone that Carol actually took 2021 off for personal reasons, so it's more like four in a row if you count it that way.
