Showerthought: My sourdough starter is basically a pet that lives in my fridge

Last month, I left my starter 'Frank' in the back of the fridge for almost 3 weeks while I was on a long haul to Denver, and I was sure he was a goner. I fed him anyway, and after two days he was bubbling like crazy and made the best loaf I've ever baked. Has anyone else had a starter come back from the brink like that?

My starter Gerald survived a month in a hot car once.

Sounds like Gerald's tougher than my last houseplant. I killed that thing in three days.

Honestly I feel like that's one of those things that people don't realize how tough some starters can be. I remember reading somewhere that the stuff in sourdough starters is actually pretty resilient compared to like store bought yeast. @spencer707 that Gerald must have some serious will to live, maybe it's the heat that actually made it stronger or something crazy like that. I mean I've heard of people reviving starters that looked totally dead after a few days in the fridge, but a whole month in a hot car is next level. Kinda makes you wonder what else could bounce back from neglect like that.
