Swapped my kitchen scale for a cheap plastic one and my bread finally works

Used to weigh everything on my fancy digital scale, but after it died last month I grabbed a $4 analog one from the dollar store and now my sourdough rises predictably every single time, has anyone else had better luck with basic gear over the high-tech stuff?

Wait, the cheap plastic one is what fixed it? That makes zero sense to me. A scale is a scale, they all measure the same thing. Unless your fancy one was secretly broken the whole time and you just never knew it. Like, all those loaves you thought were perfect were actually a crap shoot, and the dollar store one is just more accurate somehow? That would drive me nuts.
