Thought my oven ran hot for 3 years, turns out my oven thermometer was off by 40 degrees
Bought a $7 second thermometer at Walmart and both it and a neighbor's read 350 when mine said 390, which explains a lot of burnt cookies. Anyone else trust one thermometer way too long before checking it?
Why would you blame the thermometer instead of just trusting your gut on the cookies? If 390 really burned everything for 3 years, you would've figured out to drop the temp way before now. Those cheap dial thermometers are known to drift, so a $7 backup reading is not exactly proof yours was wrong, it just means two cheap ones agree with each other.
