Tried a 3-tier cake for my sister's wedding and watched the middle layer slide off

I was at my apartment in Austin last Saturday, attempting a lemon raspberry cake for my sister's reception. The bottom tier was 10 inches, middle was 8, and top was 6. I used cheap cardboard rounds and forgot to chill the ganache between stacking, so the middle layer just slid right off onto the counter after 20 minutes. Had to scrape everything down, made cupcakes instead, and they actually turned out fine. Anybody else had a cake collapse right before a big event?

Ha oh man, that's brutal. I had a chocolate cake slide off its stand right as my mom walked in for my birthday party last year. The ganache was too warm and the whole thing just melted into a puddle on the floor. Ended up serving it as "deconstructed cake" in bowls with ice cream and everyone thought I was being fancy. Your lemon raspberry cupcake save sounds way better than my mess lol.

Oh man, I've totally been there with the sliding cake disaster.
