A sound guy at our Battle of the Bands said our singer was 'fighting the room,' so we started taping a sock over the mic
We played a VFW hall in Toledo back in 2011 and the vocals were just bouncing everywhere off the cinder block walls, and this older guy running the board walked up and said 'you're fighting the room, buddy.' We started wrapping a tube sock around the SM58 and it honestly killed a lot of that harsh slapback on our demo. Anyone else got weird cheap tricks that actually worked better than the gear you bought?
