Just realized I was miking the amp wrong for 6 years

Been recording my practice space demos since 2018 and always put the mic dead center on the speaker cone. Heard a mix from a buddy's tape and my guitar sounded thin as hell compared to his. Moved the SM57 off axis toward the edge of the cone and it's like a whole different rig. Anyone else have a dumb recording habit they stuck with way too long?
