My 4-track cassette recorder finally died mid-song
Was laying down a bass track in my basement last Saturday and the old Tascam just started eating the tape. Made this horrible grinding noise then went silent. I popped it open and the pinch roller basically crumbled. Tried to fix it with rubber cement but no luck. Anyone found a decent digital alternative that still has that lo-fi warmth?

Rubber cement and a prayer" is basically the story of my life with old gear. I feel your pain on that Tascam, that grinding sound is a nightmare. For digital with warmth, I've been using a Zoom R8 for a couple years and it gets me pretty close. You gotta play with the input gain and run it hot to get that tape compression feel, but it works.
